XFX, always one company that is not afraid of a little overclocking, is coming up with a HD 5970 Black Edition video card. If it has a theme, it could be described as 'guns!'
The video card will be overclocked -- that is for sure -- and will feature double the GDDR5 of other HD 5970 video cards. With 4GB of memory, you will not running out anytime soon, and that extra memory makes this video card well suited to gaming with two or three displays.
This is not the first 4GB HD 5970 we have heard of. Asus is putting together an extreme HD 5970 with 4GB, and Sapphire is releasing a self-named HD 5990 video card, also with 4GB and pumped clocks. These limited-run cards were certainly all be the fastest things available today, but should sell for a big price premium, we imagine maybe around $800 or $900 US. They can also get away with charging arms and legs because in general, the standard HD 5970 itself is very difficult to get a hold of, and has been sold out at the big e-tailers for months.
Backlit keyboard is the best feature and makes using this laptop far more versatile. Unfortunately, the keyboard itself is not as effective for everyday use. The center area of the keyboard is not as well supported so you have to punch the keys a lot harder to get them to register on the display. A large HDD (320GB) and 4gigs of user memory, along with Intel Centrino 2.0GHz CPU, make this 64bit Vista PC performance’s better than most laptops in the under 0 price range. The WEI is only 3.7 because the integrated graphics support, although “accelerated”, is not as good as most full size Desktops with dedicated plug-in video card. The 16″ LCD is a true 16×9 widescreen display and looks absolutely stunning. Also built-in to this laptop is 1.3MP webcam, microphone and two speakers. HDMI output connector is a nice bonus. Only thing missing is Bluetooth support and a BluRay DVD player, but at a significantly higher cost. Internet WiFi access is very fast and makes for a seemingly much more reliable connection than my even my two year old high end desktop PC. All in all a very good value and one of the few Notebook PC available at any price with a backlit keyboard.
Other changes occur in more subtle ways, such as replacing the S-Video connection with a more relevant (mini) HDMI 1.3a A/V output. In past GeForce products
